The idea for LuLin Teas was born when Alexandra Verhoosel started to bring tea back for her friends from her travels in China. The teas were so popular amongst her friends that she started to source rare and exotic teas to sell as part of her company “Tea & Things” in Belgium. 

At the same time her son, Hans Verhoosel and his business partner Amy Gallagher were running a speciality coffee house in York, UK and found it difficult to source sustainable and traceable teas from other UK companies. So with the help of Alexandra and the knowledge and experience she had gained, Hans and Amy embarked on a trip to China that would change their lives! They quickly realised that they could find all the tea they needed in China and more – and what was even better was that they could meet the farmers and try the teas with them so they knew exactly where it was grown and even who had picked it! They chose only the best tasting and high quality whole leaf, loose leaf tea to send back.

With this concept LuLin Teas was developed and the teas were sold in the coffee house as well as online. But once the demand for the teas became so high, Amy and Hans knew they had to make a decision; continue running their coffee house or focus on sourcing and supplying teas to other coffee houses, cafes, shops, delis and department stores across the UK, Belgium and The Netherlands.

The decision was simple, loose leaf tea was now their life. And it still is!

As well as sourcing directly from tea gardens in China, Hans and Amy have expanded their repertoire to India, Sri Lanka and South Africa and who knows where the winds will take them next.

LuLin Teas has gone from strength to strength and can be found on the menu of Michelin star winning Purnell’s and Nobu, many restaurants, cafes and hotels, as well as at an exhibition, food festival or market near you!
