This tea has an interesting name "Spring Snail Shell" due to the tightly rolled spiral shape of the tea leaf. Bi Luo Chun is simple to brew and its refreshing and clean taste makes it a popular everyday Green tea.
Bi Luo Chun is grown on the Dongting Mountain in Jiangsu, the flat province on Chinas East coast, also known as the land of water.
Just like with grapes used to make wine, each tea farm will produce different tasting teas. Our Bi Luo Chun is the perfect example of this. The fragrant smell of Bi Luo Chun is due to the blooming flowers and fruit trees that are planted amongst the tea bushes on the Dongting Mountain.
Centuries ago Bi Luo Chun was known by the name Xia Sha Ren Xiang which means astounding fragrance. The tea was given this name due to the strong aroma it would give off when the teapickers ran out of space they put the tea leaves and so stuffed them down their tunics. In the late 17th early 18th century, Emperor Kang Xi visited the Lake Taihu area in the province of Zhejiang. When presented with a cup of Xia Sha Ren Xiang tea he was impressed and asked what the name of the tea was. When told the name astounding fragrance he thought this too vulgar and so renamed the tea Bi Luo Chun that he thought to be a much more elegant name.
